Here's a picture (taken in 1982 or 1983) of my dad and one of my "adopted" big brothers, Ken. Ken (who passed away in October of 1992) and I met early in 1972 when I was in college. The dean of women thought that I was an ant farm short of a picnic, so it was suggested to me by a friend that I consult one of his instructors in the behavior sciences department, who also happened to be a counseling psychologist (Dr. Kenneth Merck). This just goes to show how God will use life's challenges (in this case, dealing with conflict caused by certain people judging me instead of taking the time to understand me) to bring about blessings (a beautiful friendship!)!

In the years since early 1972 until his passing almost 21 years later, Ken and I have both been there for each other in the high, low, and in-between moments of our lives, and I feel so blessed to have known him and look forward to our reunion one of these days.

For days on end, I've been promising to get back here with a piece of writing called I Hope He Says "Yes!"

Well! I've finally done just that!

The writing kinda took on a life of its own--growing from what was originally meant to be a simple blog-entry with a hyperlink or two thrown in for good measure to what would pass for a mini-website!

Of course, it was originally simply going to be a review of a piece of writing even before I decided to make it a blog-entry.

interesting question came through bulletins just a little bit ago, and

I'm going to answer it! I think you'll like my answer.

First off, here's the question: Click Me!

Although

I'm not really looking for love online, I can vouch for this company,

because someone I know used it, and he's found somebody really

special. He had been lonely for quite sometime. He kept meeting the

wrong women--everything from nice women but not for him to players--and

got into a marriage (?) where only his son was a true blessing from

it. His girlfriend (the first one after he and his wife called it

quits) ended up dying in a wreck. He ended up dating her sister for

awhile, but it really wasn't a lasting match. But it was through this

service that he met the lady whom he's now seeing.

As for my OWN experience with love online, I'm going to give you three examples of it.

First off, I had an Internet romance a little over six years ago. Didn't work out. Enuf sed...

Then,

there's the case of wondering where some blast from you past is now.

The Internet has helped me to track down several of those--and one of

them tracked me down. Nothing romantic about these meetings, as the

men have usually been married. It was just neat to catch up with

people.

Finally, there's the case of finding love online of a different kind!

This

man and I have become very close to each other, but it's not that kind

of close--even though it's possible that we might have as much as a

small crush on each other--but, instead, the kind of close as in

sharing the same kinds of dreams and believing in each other.

I

want to share his website with all of you, because I believe in his

dream and believe that the dream is worth believing in for everybody.

I have a few other tricks up my sleeve, but I'm going to tell you what I've done so far to help out this good cause:

Over at a place called Judy's Book (accept my invitation to become of member of it for free, if you want to, so that you can more actively participate--but you don't have to be a member to take advantage of this offer there), I've posted something called a Deal.

You can check it out by going here.

After I did that, I asked a question about it with its not only being posted at JB but, also, with it going out to people on my friends list there.

Here are some things that you might think of doing:

1.
Not only take out gift subscriptions for teens and/or families you know
who would enjoy this but, also, organizations such as your church (Note
to Jerry & Teresa, I'm beating you to the punch on this!), local
youth center, etc.

2. Also, take out subscriptions for
businesses who might want to place ads in TTM (ads only accepted from
businesses/individuals having something that would be acceptable for
the pages--otherwords, for instance, no ads for tobacco, alcohol,
etc.). This is what TTM needs at this time--more
businesses/individuals aware of a great place for posting ads. After
you've chosen businesses/individuals you believe might find TTM a great
match, take out subscriptions for them (no strings attached)--AFTER
which you let them know that they'll be receiving a year's subscription
to TTM and that they might find it a great place to advertise their
business/cause/etc.

3. Copy and paste this information into your blog.

One
final thing that might hold your interest: I'm a regular contributor
to TTM, so chances are that you'll be reading something I've written
during the course of a year.

A JoBlog is indeed "a journal about your job/career."

If you'd like to learn more, you can go to the JoBlog group (looking is absolutely free). As more and more people get JoBlogs, links to their blogs will be added to the group.

You might, or might not, be interested in having a JoBlog of your own, but you might find at least some of the various JoBlogs interesting to read. If a particular person's blog catches your interest in a special way, you can send an e-mail to him/her once you become a member of Writing.com. You can become a member at a number of different levels--including the free level.

That is the level that I'd advise you to join first.

At the free level you can have a limited amount of items (writings) in your portfolio and can participate in various activities at the site including messageboards, contests, corresponding with other members, and other really cool things.

The next level up is the basic level that will, among other things, give you more space to share your writings (if you're a writer).

The upgraded level is the first level where you can have up to and including 10 books (which will be the level you'd want to be at should you decide to create one or more books/blogs/etc.--and, of course, that could very well include a JoBlog).

There are three more levels about the upgraded level: premium, professional, and enterprise. I was premium for several years and just recently upgraded to professional when a year's membership was on sale.

Rumors Of My Stalking Tendencies Have Been Greatly/Mildly Exaggerated

Ugly rumors get started from time to time--and one of those rumors that got started sometime back here in Cyberspace was that I am a stalker.

This really hurt at the time, but I did with this problem what Paul McCartney advised Julian Lennon to do re: the impending divorce of his parents: "Take a sad song and make it better."

So, I even make jokes at my own expense about this when the occasion calls for it.

I don't mind being referred to as a stalker in a lighthearted way--in fact, it's rather amusing--but I don't like having it said when it's being done in a serious and hurtful way.

Recently, I came across this blog entry (not here) where I was being referred to as a stalker, and my name was being used. Other hurtful things were being said as well.

So, managing to be polite, I left a short comment for them (i.e. the writer of the blog entry and those who had joined in on the "fun").

The entry was removed by the instigator not long afterwards.

If my name were going to become Google-able in association to my being a stalker, I might as well have my side of the story up for whatever readers might stumble across it.

Then, it occurred to me that who knows where this ugly rumor might be circulating, and it could make a difference in my life somewhere down the pike--a difference that wouldn't be a good one.

Therefore, I decided to make up a kind of information sheet that I would put around at different places that will, hopefully, answer any questions/concerns of others, so here it is...

I'm glad to have the information about me so that I could write a rebuttal of sorts for the simple reason that this bull goes out all over Cyberspace. Put enough of those stalker rumors out there and, if I happened to request a DJ to play Misty for me, he would probably push his panic button before he dropped dead of a heart-attack. Can't put DJs in mortal danger, can we? LOL

First off, I can confess to being a stalker in a sense if that means that I'm persistent. However, I don't deal with knives (except for safe and legal purposes), guns, axes, etc. A love interest could be in the same room with me indefinitely making out with the competition, and the worst that might come of it is that I might start crying.

Not exactly life-threatening--to them, anyway. More of a chance that I might die of a broken heart--and not that much of a chance of this happening, either, as I would have made up my mind to try to be happy for them.

So let me put down a phrase or two here:

She has inherited the Phillips genes for being stubborn and doesn't necessarily see this as bad. Ainsley Jo Phillips CAN be a pest, but she tries not to be unless absolutely necessary!

For starters, I have a name: Ainsley Jo Phillips (or you can just call me Ainsley Jo or AJ--though I think that Miss Phillips might be better in your case, as I don't know that I want to become that familiar with you for reasons I'll be stating later).

Anyway, what in Sam Hill happened to my name?

The Dear part was there followed by a blank space and a comma. Perhaps, you think that my name is Blank Space. Is that it? Or, did your dog eat my name when he got bored with a diet of homework?

If one of your representatives comes knocking at my door, I might not answer, as I like to compute in the nude and am generally too busy/lazy to put on clothes unless I know I'm expecting company--and want to receive said company at such a time.

Okay! I will--should this happen when pigs fly--take out my ten percent commission and will suggest that the remainder of the money be invested in yours truly. I'm very good at finding ways to enjoy it, so you should invest in me. Don't even THINK of investing in anyone or anything else. me! Me!! ME!!! MeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yes...about sending your address to me...I don't think so. Because I believe that you're talking trash (which is why I've chosen not to become too familiar with you), I wouldn't be all that thrilled with having you (or any of your associates) to show up on my doorstep.

I'll tell you what, however--I'm going to suggest a great business partner for you. His name is Bugs Bunny, and he lives in a rabbit hole. Why not find it (identified by his mailbox), go down there, and visit with him for awhile.

Oh yes! My REAL suggestion is that you just go down the first hole in the ground to which you come and look for Bugs Bunny, as his mailbox might have gotten shot down by Elmer Fudd and/or Yosemite Sam. Stay down there and look for Bugs Bunny for as long as you like, and leave your blasted computer at home so that you won't be sitting around and using it to write spam like this.

I was asked by a fellow writer how I'd like to become a part of Netwinner. After looking at the site, I figured that I had nothing to lose.

Literally, there's nothing to lose!

You don't pay for membership (not needed, because the site seems to be supported by people buying space to air tv-style commercials), and a couple of ways you can get points are:

1. Doing what I'm doing now and inviting you! Click here to check it out, and, if you decide to join while still connected by this link, I'll be getting points for referring you. If you win any cash prizes and/or points, I also get a percentage of those (not from yours, but I mean that the site will do a match sort of thing).

2. Play the game! You can either pick your numbers using the quick pick option or else choose your own. It's like playing the lottery without investing any money. When the ring around your chosen numbers turns green, that means that there was a match--which gives you points at the least!!!

Getting A Splitting Headache! (not literally)

Some annoying glitches seem to be going on around here.

First, I keep getting disconnected in spite of requesting a permanent logging-on. I don't know too much about cookies (other than eating them), so I have no idea what the status of my cookies is.

Anyway, I'm connected now, and glad about that. Hopefully, I'll stay that way--especially, because the logging in page is screwed-up bigtime.

Currently have been trying to get my life organized--and am so busy at that I don't have time to fill in details. Perhaps, later, when my life IS more organized...

This might, or might not, be an urban legend.

I believe I've received such a message before.

Anyway, I'm anti-death-penalty, so I'm not really drooling to see something like this--even though I hope this man and any other terrorists get captured soon and locked away to where they can't hurt people again.

If it's true that Osama Bin Laden has gotten hanged, I'll wait to find out about it in the news, and I would advise all others to do so, too, for the simple reason that we'd be cutting off our noses to spite our faces by opening this e-mail.

Here are the details sent to me by a friend. Possibly/Likely, an urban legend, but I wanted to warn you anyway...

I May Not Do Windows But I DO Do Bears!

Just wanted to share some special e-mail that I received from my e-pal, Roger, and my goddaughter, Michelle. Roger's e-mail will come first followed by Michelle's lighthearted message. Feel free to e-mail this page to people you know who would enjoy it!

You can find more about Roger's project in my July 16 entry here, and I'll be posting more about it in the future, I'm sure!

I will be out of town from July 28-August 6. When I return I will be undergoing that medical test where they stick that camera(?) down your throat and see what is going on (August 9th). Hopefully you guys can get a few new ideas and start the ball rolling.

I would like to start the program here in Brunswick, Georgia as this is where the Federal Law Enforcement Center is located. Thousands of Police Officers, FBI Agents and Border Patrol personnel train here. Hopefully they will carry the word about our project with them as they spread out across the country.

After setting up here in Brunswick, I would like to start a program in Jacksonville, Florida.

Then hit a few more major cities in Florida.

This will give us a foundation to work with when introducing this project to police departments in other major cities. I am hoping that by hitting a few major cities that the smaller surrounding towns will see what is happening and will contact us. If so, we can help them start the project in their area.

I have received quite a few e-mails from people wanting to help with the project but very few have signed up. I am not sure why. I hope people like AJ will spread the word as she is one who loves to talk with people. Wayne Evers has told me that if we want he will set up and design a web site for the project at no charge.

There may be some who wish to donate but do not want to get involved with the actual running of the project. When donations start to come in I will deposit the funds in a separate account and when Wayne builds the web site I will post any and all donations received.

Anyone donating needs to let me know if I can put their name next to the donation or at least their initials and city where they live.

I want everyone involved to see exactly what is happening at all times. As I stated earlier, all monies received will be spent on purchasing teddy bears. The only other costs to be taken from those funds will be for the mailing or delivery of the bears to the police departments. Even that expense will appear on the web site.

I am not going to set up another non-profit for this project. The last time it cost me almost $1,100.00 to set up the Orphan Foundation. It is just to costly and a total waste of money. I guess anyone wanting to donate can make the check out to me and write on the memo The "We-Care-Bear-Project". Some may want to purchase teddy bears themselves and mail them to us at the address below. The easiest way for me would be for people to purchase a WalMart Gift Card and mail it to us. That way we can purchase the teddy bears at WalMart. The less cash we receive the easier it will be to keep track of everything.

We need to begin spreading the word and see if we can get this
project rolling in the next week or two.

I received this note from a very special friend and wanted to let people know what he was up to so that, hopefully, he can get lots of volunteers...

THE "WE-CARE-BEAR" PROJECT

I stopped dead in my tracks as I saw numerous police cars race into the mini mart parking lot and screech to a halt. Within seconds there were officers racing out of the darkness, their guns drawn. I stood holding a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread, afraid to move a muscle. The next thing I knew the police had tackled a young woman, who was on the payphone, and was wrestling her ground. Several officers were screaming at the top of their voices demanding that she spit out whatever it was that she had placed into her mouth. I moved against the brick wall as several officers came out of the store with a young man, who was handcuffed.

"Can I move?" I asked one of the policemen.

"Just stay right where you are for a few more minutes," he advised.

I looked at my son and shook my head.

"Look at that Dad, That's terrible," he said, pointing inside the store.

I turned around to see a baby, about two years old, being held by an officer. The child was totally terrified and screaming at the top of its lungs. I watched as its little face turned beet red and began to distort and change shape. It was a horrible, horrible sight to witness.

"Oh my God, Dad can't you do anything? That babies veins are popping out on the top of its head. It might have an old person stroke or something," said Roger Jr.

I handed him the bread and milk and I stepped off the curb.

"I asked you not to move," yelled the police officer, pointing at me.

"I'm going to go to my truck and get something for that poor baby," I told him.

"You move and I will arrest you and take you to jail. Do you understand me, mister?"

I looked at my son and then over at the baby, still in a state of screaming terror.

I turned around and began walking toward my truck. I opened the door and pushed the driver's seat forward. I reached into the back seat and took out a small teddy bear which I had bought at Wal-Mart, earlier that day, for my granddaughter Madison.

The policeman stood there, saying not a word, as he watched me walk toward the officer holding the baby.

"Do you have any children?" I asked him.

"No, I don't," he replied.

"Well, I do and this might help," I said, as I held the teddy bear out to the officer.

The policeman reached out and took the bear and held it toward the child. The baby reached out and took the teddy and immediately buried its scared little face into the brown fur of the small animal.

"Maybe I should carry a few of these bears in my police car," said the officer, as he somewhat laughed.

I knew right then and there that this was going be my next project. Orphanages had refused to allow me to help the orphan children when I stared the Orphan Foundation several years ago.

This is a project I cannot do by myself. I want to start here in Brunswick, Georgia and spread the project from there. I want every state, county and highway patrol police car, as well as every emergency medical unit, to carry several teddy bears in their trunk, specifically for children who have to suffer such unbelievable, unnecessary trauma.

State asked to investigate Schindlers

A lawyer involved in the Terri Schiavo saga has asked the state to investigate whether two foundations set up by Schiavo's parents and siblings unlawfully used charitable contributions for lobbying activity.

California lawyer Jon Eisenberg filed a complaint with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services last week and sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service.

Eisenberg alleged that Terri Schiavo's family has used the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation Inc. to collect tax-exempt donations that were then funneled to the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation Center for Health Care Ethics, a lobbying group.

Laws prevent charities from funneling their tax-exempt contributions to lobbying groups.

"A charity can set up a lobbying arm, but it must keep the two organizations strictly separated financially," said Eisenberg, who helped represent Michael Schiavo in his efforts to have Terri's feeding tube removed. "In this case, I don't think they are doing that."

Samantha Chechele, an attorney for the two foundations, said Wednesday that Eisenberg's allegations are without merit. The money collected by the nonprofit foundation has remained in its bank account or has been used for legitimate purposes.

Chechele also emphasized that anyone who gave money to the lobbying organization was told clearly that the contributions were not tax-exempt. She denied any funds have been commingled.

"I've been over the books myself with a fine-tooth comb, and I know the funds are being kept separate," Chechele said.

The two foundations were set up by Schiavo's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, and her brother and sister. They fought against Michael Schiavo for years to keep Terri alive. Several doctors stated, and courts ultimately agreed, that Terri was in a persistent vegetative state. She died March 31, 2005, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed.

Terence McElroy, a spokesman for the Agriculture and Consumer Services Department, said the foundations will receive a letter asking for a response to the complaint, a standard procedure.

The department also has assigned an investigator to ensure the inquiry proceeds without problems, McElroy said. "We made the decision because of the visibility of the case," he said.

Just make yourselves at home and check out whatever you might find interesting. With very few exceptions, all links make their destinations open into new windows, meaning that you don't have to even leave the website completely behind in order to take side-trips.

About those destinations...some will already be leading to places that are already going and active. Others will lead to places that are either relatively-new or else absolutely brand-new and not yet developed.

If you were to come back to every last one of those places in anything from a day or so to a week, you would see a lot of exciting changes there.

At this time, I'm building a website that's state-of-the-art (that is, as state-of-the-art as it can be coming from someone who began using The Internet back in 1998 when almost 46 years old--anyway, I'm quite proud of it!), and I'm hooking up various blogs to it.

I'm being very thorough when it comes to building it, so I can't tell you just when it will be done, but I'm hoping that it will be done before the first of next week, and the sooner the better.

When my website opens, I'll be making another announcement here, so be watching for it.

Some Thoughts On Stanley Tookie Williams And His Upcoming Big Funeral

The following was originally a post I put on a messageboard but I've decided to print it several other places in order to get its message spread around as much as possible...

I seem to recall the case of another kind of gang leader of sorts who might or might not have gotten his hands dirty in the actual killing of many people of all ages. However, he encouraged blood-letting and witnessed several executions.

He was, in fact, on his way to commit/oversee more hate crimes when he had a life-changing experience.

There were (as in the case of Tookie) some people who were skeptical that he'd changed, but, after much praying, they gave him a chance, anyway.

Paul proved himself and is known for his beautiful and encouraging letters to the early churches.

Ironically, he ended up getting executed--but by the people who liked him better the way he used to be and were getting rid of him because he wasn't their type anymore.

To this very day, Paul is considered to be a saint--even though he has said himself that he was the worst of sinners.

It's quite likely that Stephen--who was praying for the forgiveness of those stoning him to death--also gurgled at some point, and his executioners might have gotten a thrill out of that.

Or, maybe, his executioners were more like those who believe in the death penalty. They might have heard his gurgling and seen his blood spill but--while this gave them no personal thrill--thought that he deserved this so they weren't about to become bleeding hearts over this.

There's some doubt that Tookie killed those four people--or had anything to do with it. I believe that, in his changed state-of-mind, he would have owned up to it (even though there's the chance that he would have blocked it from his memory)--especially, if it meant escaping execution.

Whether he did or not, he still turned his life around and made it his mission to do everything in his power to discourage young people from joining gangs.

We remember that Paul oversaw a lot of executions of Christians and was on his way to kill even more Christians when he became a changed person through Jesus.

But this isn't what he's primarily remembered for. He's primarily remembered for letters of encouragement and for his leadership in the early church.

If someone told Stephen's family and friends that the sneering man at their loved one's stoning would even have Popes taking his name and wearing it with pride in the future, I wonder how they would have felt.

I wonder how they would have felt to know that an excerpt from his writings would often be read as part of the celebration of two lives being joined in marriage and that songs would even be written using his words as lyrics.

There would have, likely, been a mix of feelings among them.

However, if someone told this to Stephen, himself, his response would, no doubt, have been, "Praise Jesus!!!"

There is going to be a funeral service of great size and importance for Stanley Tookie Williams this week, and all kinds of celebrities are going to be there along with many everyday people as well.

Doesn't that seem to be a lot of fuss to be made over a criminal--which Tookie definitely was by the very fact that he was one of the two leaders of the Crips gang?

Yes! It's too much fuss to be made over a criminal.

But those who will be turning out for his funeral won't be celebrating the demonic life he lived in the past but, instead, the changes in his life and how he, like Paul, was so dedicated to bringing about that change in others!

It's my prayer that the legacy he'll leave behind is the continuation of getting out of the gang mentality and resolving our differences in loving ways.

May it speak to the people who think that street gangs are glorious.

May it speak to those (of any color) who join (or consider joining) groups promoting racism.

May it speak to those who see it heroic to fly into buildings full of innocent people or set off explosives in marketplaces, schools, daycare centers, and other places.

May it also speak to those who still believe that the death penalty is the answer to crime and get so busy in their obsession with promoting it that they overlook alternative options with successful outcomes that are springing up here and there like neglected orphans--programs that not only rehabilitate those who have already done the crime and are doing the time but, also, prevent people from choosing crime in the first place.

So--celebrities and non-celebrities alike--attend his funeral without shame if you're in the Los Angeles area. For those of us who are many miles away, attend his funeral in your hearts.

Become more like the Tookie whose life was snuffed out prematurely with our laws and tax dollars and less like the Tookie in a life he successfully put behind him!

A Thoughtful E-Mail Message I Received This Morning...

He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say.

When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, John was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up and asked him, "I don't get it!
You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

He replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or ... you can choose to be in a bad mood.
I choose to be in a good mood.

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes, it is," he said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people affect your mood.

You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life."

I reflected on what he said.

Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business.

We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that he was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, he was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw him about six months after the accident.

When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins...Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon-to-be born daughter," he replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or...I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

He continued, "..the paramedics were great.
They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said John. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes,' I replied.

The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Gravity'.

Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead.'"

He lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude... I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34.

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

You have two choices now:

Trapped By The Pressure To Be A People-Pleaser

I follow the blog of an interesting and talented young lady who is a high school freshman. Today, she wrote this entry in her blog (Open to read entire story when you get there).

In response, I'm going to leave some feedback for her along with this piece about Jennifer Wilbanks (Remember the runaway bride?).

One of my pet peeves is coming across yet another piece of writing that portrays Jennifer in some sort of Public Enemy #1 light.

A related pet peeve is the overuse of the adjective "selfish."

Yes, there are people whom I feel are selfish in a negative way--and one of the first people coming to mind when I think about an example of that is Michael Schiavo.

Another example are those who over-exercise the right of eminent domain while breaking the commandments of Thou Shalt Not Steal and Thou Shalt Not Covet.

But think of "selfish" being used in the following sentence:

You're just being selfish not to go out to dinner with me.

SURELY you can spend a few hours of your Christmas day visiting your lonely great aunt. Think of others for a change and quit being so selfish.

While going out to dinner with the person who invited you might be a nice thing to do--and, even more so, it would be nice to visit your lonely great aunt on Christmas--are you "selfish" for turning down invitations and family expectations?

Could be, because you're putting your own desires ahead of those of others.

But is that wrong?

Sometimes, it's not the best choice to make--but, other times, it is.

It would be better, I think, for the person being invited out to dinner to do something else with his/her friend instead (if the problem is not wanting to eat out--either not caring for eating out or else not being in the mood to eat out at that particular time) or else, if it's a case of timing not being right, to ask for a rain-check.

I believe that your great-aunt would be better off with a phone call or letter from you that comes from your heart rather than a visit that your heart isn't into.

Perhaps, instead of Christmas, you might want to choose a less hectic time to spend real quality time with your aunt.

The most important thing to remember is this:

The person who is trying to "guilt" you into doing something will be getting his/her way, if you cave in and put his/her wishes ahead of your own. Therefore, that person is selfish in a much worse way because he/she manipulates you into making this happen.

Final thoughts: It's wonderful to enjoy life with those special people in your life, so it's great to hit upon things that are mutually enjoyable and take place during a time when it's not a strain to go somewhere/do something.

I like this dialogue I read that's supposed to take place between a dating couple...

Man: If you really loved me, you'd let me sleep with you.

Woman: And if you really loved me, you'd respect my wishes not to sleep with anyone but the man who marries me.

Found a blog entry from one of my favorite writers that showed her folks at a young age, and this reminded me of the picture of my folks, so I wanted to share it with her.

Her dad passed away several years ago, and her mom has now followed, as of Thanksgiving. I still have my mom here with me on this side, but my dad crossed over Groundhog Day of 2004.

Stanley Tookie Williams Has Been Executed...

I came across the post of this parent who said that his/her nine year old son was weeping quietly and wondered what to tell him. This is what I wrote in response:

What do you tell your son?

Tell him that there was a time when Tookie was a part of an angry group who believed they were doing the right thing but that he came to realize that his life was going in the wrong direction.

After he'd changed, he did all he could to discourage others from making the mistakes that he and other gang members have made, and many people are much better off because of this.

Tell him that Tookie was murdered this morning because there are angry people out there who think they're doing the right thing by continuing to carry out executions--even executing people who are no more deserving of being murdered than the convenience store clerk and the parents and daughter who ran the motel because they have somehow ended up wrongly convicted. I don't know whether or not this was the case with Tookie.

Perhaps someday (like Tookie) they will spread the word that they had been traveling down the wrong path. Some already have, because there are people who were once for the death penalty but now have turned completely around and speak out against it.

The most important thing to tell your son is that Tookie would NOT want for him to live the life that he did in his youth and the best tribute he can pay to him is to stay away from crime and gangs.

I'd thought I'd finally have a midnight bedtime tonight, but I think I'm going to change the target to one and, then, stick to my guns!

This will allow for me to have time for a small, healthy meal and to get, perhaps, a couple more pieces finished and posted before turning in.

Also, will give me some time to scan some pictures.

So many things to do and so little time...

Well, I need to call my mom and tell her goodnight. We've been celebrating my 53rd birthday today as best as we could with the weather the way that it is. Here's a picture of me taken on my first birthday...

Better close this now for sure so that I'll be ready to go to bed at one.

I wonder if the Governor changed his mind and decided to stay the execution of Stan Williams out in California. It would be really tragic if he didn't, because that sends out a message that I believe will make things worse instead of better...

I'm looking at the clock, and it's almost midnight.

There really isn't anything that I need to be doing online tonight, so it looks as if I'm finally going to actually shut off my computer before midnight and be in bed shortly afterwards.

Before I actually get ready for bed, I'm going to drink some juice, iced tea, and water. In the morning, I'll have apples and carrots for starters.

It's still very snowy around here, so I doubt if I'll be leaving the house until about the middle of the week. I think more snow is due to come in this weekend. As soon as it has all fallen, we'll hire someone to shovel us out.

My mom has found a picture that I'd been wanting to get my hands on, and she'll be bringing it to me as soon as it's safe to walk on my sidewalk. I can hardly wait!

Tomorrow, I'm going to be doing a Bible study online and finishing some pieces at Epinions.com that I have partially done but are in draft form. I might not do all of those but, at least, I'll do the shorter ones. Hope to be spending quite a bit of time at both Writing.com and Blogit.com. I'd been promising different people from each place that I'd be there for longer than it takes me to breeze in and out.

Well, I see it's time to shut off my computer, so I'd better post this, check my e-mail (one box of it) once more, and call it a night...

I think that, from now on, I'm going to copy and paste all entries into here, because my mouse and keyboard have a tendency to become overwhelmed by this place for some reason.

However, this is short, so I'm just going to type it in.

Anyway, this is the morning after the night that I said I was going to be in bed by midnight. Before long, I'm going to be going to bed for a few hours--and putting my computer to bed for a few hours, as well.

Tonight, I WILL go to bed by midnight...or so I say now.

Anyway, I thought that this blog would look more impressive with more than one entry in it at this time, so I've decided to share this review I did of a children's book about a pig.

I'll probably write another something in here in a few hours, but this is all she wrote here for now...
